WHAT
According to Applied Performance Strategies, Inc. (APS)[i], Job and Task Analysis (JTA) is an important component of the instruction systems design (ISD) approach to training. Without a successful JTA, the training designer may not fully understand a job and its contents and thus will not produce a properly designed training program.
WHY
A JTA is used to create successful training programs. According to APS, if this step is not done and done well, there will be no factual basis for development of effective, efficient instruction.
HOW
The diagram[ii] below delineates usages such as creating effective job designs and employee selection.

USE IN THE REAL WORLD
The Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC)[iv] accreditation process in order to become an accredited training provider requires all courses to match specified JTAs to course objectives. If a JTA did not have corresponding course objective, then the curriculum would need to be amended to include it. Obtaining IREC accreditation represents that the organization’s course offerings are standardized and meet specific national requirements that ensure qualified individuals leave with the necessary information in order to perform their necessary duties.
